What to Expect on a Self-Guided Paddle

A self-guided paddle board tour gives you the freedom to explore Marina del Rey at your own pace while enjoying one of Southern California's most scenic waterfront destinations. When you arrive, our team will check you in, provide a brief safety orientation, and help you launch from our convenient marina location. Before heading out, you'll receive recommendations on local conditions, route options, and important safety guidelines to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Every self-guided rental includes a premium stand up paddle board, adjustable paddle, ankle leash, and a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (PFD). Our staff will make sure your equipment is properly fitted and answer any questions before you begin your adventure.

We offer route recommendations based on experience level. First-time paddlers and beginners typically enjoy exploring the calm marina channels, where protected waters provide an easy introduction to stand up paddle boarding. Intermediate paddlers often venture farther through Marina del Rey's waterfront neighborhoods and boat-lined canals. More experienced paddlers may choose longer routes that extend toward the marina entrance and nearby coastal areas when conditions permit.

Most guests spend between 60 and 120 minutes on the water, although longer rental options are available for those who want additional time to explore. A one-hour session is ideal for beginners, while experienced paddlers often prefer two hours or more to fully experience the marina.

If you're paddling solo for the first time, start with a shorter route, stay within the marina's protected waters, and allow yourself extra time to get comfortable. Check weather conditions before launching, bring water and sun protection, and keep your phone secured in a waterproof case. Taking a few minutes to review your route before departure can help you paddle confidently and make the most of your self-guided Marina del Rey adventure.
